Country Market at Achill Sheep Show 2009

Achill Country Market were at the Achill 2009 Sheep Show at Patten's Lounge Bar, Derreens, Achill island, on Sunday, 11th October. There was a huge turnout for the show, the largest yet, and this year Achill Country Market were able to use a marquee adjoining the pub.
Thank you to all our customers who attended.
On the day the sun came out and a great time was had by all. There was plenty of goods on offer by members, as well as traditional wool spinning and basket weaving demonstrations.
In addition, the Vegetable contest entries were on display in the marquee and the interior was festooned with childrens colourful and varied entries in a Show Poster competition. There was a continuous throng of visitors to the marquee and business was brisk.
Needless to say everyone had a fabulous time and agreed it was an event not to be missed, especially with Achill Country Market attending. Of course, we shall be attending again next year.

12th Birthday Celebrations!

We were up early today, eagerly hanging bunting, fastening balloons, and setting our stalls as attractively as possible with lovely produce, for our Achill Country Market 12th Birthday Celebrations.
Thank you to all our customers - holidaymakers and islanders - who turned out in support for our Opening Market of 2009.
Today was a triple celebration. Not only was it the market's 12th birthday, and our first market of 2009, but we were also celebrating two new members who have joined this season. Their produce will add further variety to our baking and craft selection. You are very welcome.
Don't forget, Achill Country Market is held at Ted Lavelle's, Cashel, on Achill island on Friday mornings - see panel for details.
Hoping to see you all next week.

12th Birthday Opening and Celebrations!

Achill Country Market’s New Season begins on May, 29th, the exact same date when it all began twelve years ago in 1997.

Ever since then, there has been a band of eager producers offering their quality, assorted goods for their customers.

Their motto is ‘Freshness and Quality at a Reasonable Price.’

The wide range of produce on offer includes Traditional Baking such as brown bread, tea bracks, fresh scones, mouthwatering sponge cakes, and apple tarts. Even allergy sufferers needn’t miss out, with cakes available

made from spelt wheat.

Jams, marmalades and chutneys in variety are always popular, and rightly so. Oh, and did we mention the hand-made fudge? Delicious!

There is a range of health-inducing Chemical-free Vegetables – courgettes, leeks, potatoes, salad fare - and herbs, including thyme; tarragon; sage and parsley. Seaweeds gathered from Achill’s beautifully clean shores, such as dillisk and carrageen, are very popular.

Lovely free-range hen and duck eggs from small family flocks are offered.

Original handmade crafts include stylish scarves, handspun woollen bags and hats, babyware and cot-quilts, printed cloth bags, hand-made Greetings cards and bookmarks, and small original watercolour paintings.

As if that weren’t enough there is a range of interesting and practical vividly-coloured pottery. Last but not least, there is a range of Achill-grown ornamental plants and shrubs festooned with foliage and flowers.

So, why not go along to Ted Lavelles, Cashel, on Friday, May 29th between 11am and 1pm and join in the Celebrations.
